SILENT DANCE. 2022

Ilse van Roy interweaves stories in her textiles, breathes life into her glass sculptures and expresses her extremely vivid and complex personality through just as deep and bright colours. Through her favourite materials and various techniques, she explores the space between matter and form, performativity and object-based practices, art and craft. Intuitive and playful at the first sight, her works involve deep research and thorough preparation. A Silent Dance (2022) is a sculptural couple, glass-blown in Bohemia, a region in the Czech Republic famous for its artisans. Ambiguous in its form, it evokes mystical and otherworldly interpretations. Just like the black holes, they draw space, energy, and light around them in. What’s get inside the darkness of their void becomes part of their matter, their silent dance is fragile and bewitching. Another work by Ilse is a poetry in textile titled THE WOMAN (2021). It's inspired by a letter about Elizabeth Tibbots who based on her ‘unusual’ behaviour was considered to either be bewitched or be a witch herself. In our times, she would probably become one more artist of Planet Caravan.
